When Mountains Fall

Searching for a New Life

After the hopes of the Arab Spring, much of the Middle East erupted in counter-revolution and war.

In Syria alone, tens of millions lost their homes and became refugees.

Children and young adults found themselves living in an unstable and terrifying new world.

Now they are rebuilding their lives…

but against growing odds.

In this film they tell their story.

Director’s Statement

When Mountains Fall

Why is this film important?

The “refugee story” is back in the news. Its effects are felt everywhere, driving politics and economics in Europe, the US, and worldwide. Every day brings another reminder: border fences and walls, families separated, children taken from their parents, desperate people trudging across mountains and crossing seas in leaky rafts. Tens of thousands of young people are living these experiences on a daily basis, and their fates are tied to ours in innumerable ways. In many ways, they are our mirror. How we respond shows us who we are.

“A film that needs to be seen by young people in the US, a rebutal to the walls, the cages, and the barbed wire.”
